The mistake is to believe that the Republicans are really any different. They're just as corrupt and power hungry as the Democrats and often want the same things but put on a show of confrontation. Maybe I'm just old and a curmudgeon, but I keep wondering why they are always vowing to fight and change while we keep getting farther down the road the Democrats are leading us. I call bullshit. I'd like to hope the Freedom Caucus is able to change things, but I hoped the Tea Party would too.

The problem is Republicans campaign on limiting the power of politicians. Then they get into office, and.....don't fight to limit their own money and power.
Democrats campaign on giving themselves absolute authority over everything and everyone. Then they get into office, and.....their idiot base gets exactly what they voted for.
So yes, the current situation reflects that. The amount of GOP officials who get sent to Washington only to become shills for The System is staggering. Paul Ryan used to be an "outsider."
As far as the 2024 election goes, don't doubt for a second that communist politicians in swing states will remove Trump from the ballot, or discount his votes as "ineligible." Anything you can think of, will happen.

Anything you can think of, will happen. Here’s where my proposed law of financial independence would take away much of the financial benefit of being part of “ the system” Imagine, if like those who work in audit departments of public accounting firms, those who worked in elected positions in government and the Supreme Court justices could not have investments in any companies. They could invest in stock and bond index funds, but they wouldn’t be able invest in specific companies during their term and one year after their term. There would be less financial incentive to become swamp people.

And not 2 days later, that article you posted from the Atlantic..... So is the ban on a state by state by basis or at the Federal level? If state by state, that would be a mess
