US Government Income Statement.xlsx (16.78 KB) First time I ever attached a file, as I couldn't copy it to be legible. The Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 and the cold war ended then. I wanted to see how our revenue and spending has changed since then. I provide this data without commentary at this point. One thing to note is that 2022 still had a bunch of COVID $ in the spending. I hope it comes thru. I tried to be, as MD would say, "Just the facts", in the presentation. There are a few surprises for me in this data. Source of the actual data - go to whitehouse.gov, click on historical tables and go to table 3.2 Outlays by function and sub function 1962 - 2028 and table 2.1, Receipts by source 1934-2028 www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/historical-tables/

Alright, so "Just the Facts, Ma'am" is kindof boring. That was partly my point. I almost didn't click on your link, and I'm a sucker for spreadsheets and details. So without the controversy - how do you make people care? Open question.
I haven't drilled into this in detail, but something seems off - federal spending as a percentage of GDP was 44.9% in 1992? Clinton didn't assume control until January '93 - so Republicans were in the Presidency for 12 years prior to the '92 fiscal year. Either Federal Spending was terribly high in '92, or GDP was remarkably low, or some combination of both.

I didn’t provide commentary because I didn’t have the time to analyze it.
I should have some time on this upcoming rainy weekend.
Maybe I’ll have some stuff to get the feathers ruffled.

Understood.
Without looking it up, it seems to me that federal spending has hovered between 15 and 25% of GDP since post WWII. That 45% number just seems outlandishly hard to believe. Or am I reading something wrong?

US Government Income Statement.xlsx (18.14 KB) Great catch MD. I made everything from 1992 in 2022 $$'s except for the GDP. So the deficit was in 2022 $$ but the '92 GDP was in '92 $$'s. Much more reasonable now. Thanks for reading carefully. I will analyze it sometime soon.
