Most of us are outraged about something these days. Most of us do nothing other than be outraged. The balance would seem to be reason - driven and guided by conversation and exchange of perspective.
On a trip to France Benjamin Franklin was asked how smart he was. His response was that he was smart enough to realize how much he didn't know. If only more people were that smart maybe we'd be able to counter the misinformation and the malinformation traps. I'm a big fan of the smell test, gut feelings, and logic, but mostly of discussion and a willingness to say "holy shit, I didn't know (or think of) that!"
The Twitter files show that discussion is discouraged and obstructed. Logic is criminalized and outrage is fertilized. We all need to get smarter and do something to fix it.
