Clearly there wasn't much of a FA market for a CB coming off an ACL tear, so he signs a 1 year prove it deal.
With LeBlanc and Maddox playing well down the stretch, Sidney Jones two years removed from an injury that takes that long to fully recover from, and Mills and Maddox, we got all the CBs we should need. You also know that Darby will be highly motivated to play well for his future contract.

I'm still not convinced that we have a top CB, but we have enough competition now that I'd say the position is fine unless we find an elite CB dropping to us in the first round.

I like it a lot !
I think he's a good CB and I'm happy he is here. I wouldnt classify any of our other CBs as good.yet. Maybe another year under their belt one or two will be.
Good job !

Had another thought on this overnight.
It makes sense from Darby's point of view to stay. The trainers know him and his injury, which will help with the recovery process because a new team wouldn't have that background. And once he's back he'll be playing in a system that he knows which gives him a better chance to shine compared to adjusting to a new scheme, so it sets him up better for FA next year.

Yes, it definitely makes sense from his standpoint and from ours.
From ours, if he is healthy and plays well we will have first shot to extend him If would like. If he is healthy and progresses to the same reputation he had when he got him, he will be well paid, by us or someone else. If he doesn't , then we can move on.

It only makes sense from his standpoint if he wasn't able to get the money/length of contract he wanted. Obviously, other teams had questions about him and so we've got him for another season. I'm cool with that. Let's see if he can perform and then we can sign him to a longer contract or, if he sucks, buh bye...
