With free agency settling down it's interesting to see where we still have holes. Some of those I've listed as depth/STs may well get beaten out (eg Elliss, Wallace) but I've marked obvious holes with . Every team in the NFL has several of those right now. Offense (24) QB (3) - Hurts, Mariota, Book RB (4) - Penney, Gainwell, Scott, Sermon TE (3) - Goedert, Calcaterra, Stoll WR (5) - Brown, Smith, Watkins, , OL (9) - Mailata, Dickerson, Kelce, Jurgens, Johnson, , Opeta, Driscoll, Defence (25) Edge (5) - Reddick, Sweat, Graham, , Barnet tDT (5) - Cox, Davis, Williams, , Tuipoluto LB (5) - Morrow, Dean, Bradley, Johnson, Elliss CB (5) - Slay, Bradberry, Maddox, Williams, McPhearson S (5) - Edmunds, , Blankship, Chachere, Wallace STs (3) - Elliott, Lovato, Siposs So that leaves seven holes and one roster spot to fill. We have four good draft picks (#10, #30, #62, #94) and two late picks (#219, #248) this year for those eight needs which can be taken by UDFAs or current players I've not listed. Keeping it simple, right now I want Edge, DT and S with our first three picks followed by a LT/LG in the third round and use one of the later picks to replace Pascal as a WR/ST. Keeping it real, I'd be very confident that Roseman will be active during the draft (eg trading back from #10 for #16-20 and a third) and he's always likely to pull off something unexpected. Anyone else want to comment on the current state of the roster?

I know that 1st round RB's aren't really a thing teams do these days but can you imagine this offence with Robinson alongside Hurts. Yes there are other needs but the guy is special so I'd love to see them make it happen somehow.
If he's still there at 30, I 100% take him but suspect he will be gone by then. Would Howie dare take him earlier? I wonder.

In today's game, RB doesn't win you a SB. I mean, how many playoff wins do they have with Elliot? How many do the (va)Giants have? It's a wasted pick. You can find a back that's more than good enough for a fraction of the cost.

First, it's "defense."
I'd like to see us load up on d-line and LB. Howie will likely get a couple linemen, but probably not LB.
As for RB, if you're going to give your star RB 7 carries in the Super Bowl, then obviously don't use high picks on another RB. We might go after one in the 3rd or later, but nothing worth getting excited over. I'm not against using a high pick on a RB who looks to be special, but only if you're going to give him 25-30 touches a game. We don't need that here.

Would you take Derrick Henry in the 1st round knowing what he's giving you?

Would you take Derrick Henry in the 1st round knowing what he's giving you? Nope. I would not. How many playoff games has Derrick Henry won for the Titans? I don't care how much of a beast someone is, it's a pass-first league. It's not old school cramming the ball down the middle and getting a couple of yards. No need to waste high draft picks or money on RBs. Did you know, the last time a team won the SB with the leagues leading rusher was the Denver Broncos with Terrell Davis!!! I know it seems cool/fun to get these guys but other positions are WAY more important to use those picks on. If you have a good line, you can put almost anyone back there and you'll get more than enough yards to win. Spend the money/draft picks on more-important positions like OL, DL, DB, etc. You get way more return for those guys. Now, if you ask me would I like Derrick Henry or Saquon or these other guys, but at a 3rd round pick (or lower) or for not a ton of money? Of course I would. But there is absolutely ZERO need to spend that draft pick or money on a stud RB. You just don't get the return. Not to mention they're good for about 3-4 seasons on average before they decline and you've got to get someone else anyway.

But pick 30 is barely a 1st Actually the 30th pick is still huge to trade for a team that wants a guy because the 30th is still round 1 which means there is a 5th year for the rookie contract. That is huge, huge, huge.

I would never, ever, ever, never take a RB in the first round or pay one big dollars. Not Henry, not Barkley, notanyone. They are too replaceable to lock up serious cap allocation in. It is a passing league and serious resources should be dedicated to building your offense there and your defense to stop it. Only bad franchises pay for RBs.

Almost every successful team has a running game. It's just that often it's the QB doing a lot of the running, like with us and the Chiefs. FWIW Henry is 3-4 in the playoffs, and almost carried Ryan freaking Tannehill to the Super Bowl.
Out of the top 10 highest paid RB's last year, 5 were in the playoffs. 2 were in their conference championship game. Matching up a RB like Henry with a good QB would likely be unstoppable.
I personally wouldn't take a RB in the 1st round. But if I could look forward 5 years and see the production of a couple of the top RB's in the league, of course I would.

But again, production is great but RBs don't win you championships. You don't need a guy to run for 150 yards a game to be successful so why pay for that production? Especially when the numbers don't lie in the playoffs? Nope, keep finding guys like they've been. They won a SB that way and almost won a 2nd that way. No need for paying the price for a stud RB.

We're not paying for a top-notch RB, nor should we - if you're going to give your feature back 7 touches in the Super Bowl, then build your roster accordingly. But maybe the results are different if we ran more? The Chiefs' running game killed us in the 2nd half. It's just ridiculous to say running doesn't win. Our RB's arguably had more to do with our SB win than Foles did. Blount/Ajayi/Clement ran and received for over 250 yards that game.

Again, look at all of these teams with stud RBs, they never go far in the playoffs and many never make it. Again, how many playoff wins do the vaGiants have with Barkley? How many do the Cowgirls have with Zeke? The Chiefs running game isn't what cost that game, it was no pressure on the QB and then Mahomes went off 13-15 for 93 yards and two scores. Their leading rusher ran for a whole 76 yards. Hardly what killed them. It amazes me how people are still so high on RBs when the numbers have shown (for over 20 years now) it's a waste to use high picks or pay a lot for them. Again, the numbers are the numbers.

Every team is built differently, and every successful team has a running game. You don't need to have a superstar RB, but it sure helps. Mahomes passed for a whole 182 yards in the SB. The Chief's running game is what killed us. Yes, the numbers don't lie.

The game can evolve though. Who says the Eagles aren't on the verge of something game changing with the addition of a talent like Robinson & what that could mean for Hurts & this offenCe?
& of course I know there is next to no chance of it happening, not at 10, not at 30 & I agree with most of the sentiments expressed here but we also should remember that those that stand still go nowhere...

Right, and "common sense" is rarely common sense. The game of baseball has been virtually destroyed by computer geeks. Every team has a useless "power" hitter who either strikes out or hits a home run while batting .200. We spent a whole year watching Schwarber bat leadoff lolz. Any team that goes back to simple baseball strategy that held up for 100 years would likely have an advantage. Just as writing off top RB's s ridiculous. And yeah, we're not getting Robinson in a million years. But imagine putting a superstar RB in this offense? We would probably not even need to carry a punter.

Mixon isn't what I'd call a stud and he ran for a whole 76 yards in the SB. Here you go with Mahomes only passing for 182 yards but he made the passes in the end when it counted (I mean, let's forget about the two scores he passed for in the 2nd half in crunch time). It wasn't the running game that beat the Eagles. Again, show me where a team with one of these stud RBs has won a SB....

Well, since teams have been writing off the RB for DECADES now--and winning SBs--I guess they might be on to something, eh? Just because it's nostalgic to think of the old-time running game, doesn't mean it works now...it doesn't. If it did, you'd see teams with these stud RBs win. However, the exact OPPOSITE happens. But don't let those pesky numbers get in the way of your narrative...

If anyone knows what it takes to build SB winning rosters, it's Eagles fans living in 55+ communities. What does 55+ have to do with it? I agree with most of the points you have made but I will give more weight to the opinion of an average 60 year old life long football fan than an average 30 year fan.

Who knows how old any of us are? It was a joke, as in older fans have seen so little success overall. Age itself has nothing to do with it. Except in baseball, of course, where you wouldn't believe how retarded younger fans are in the age of analytics.
