He sits out last year, turns down a 5 year 70M contract offer from Pitt. Signs 4 year 52.5 M deal with Jets. So he lost a year's salary and signs a deal that offers 500K a year less, now that is winning!

He rolled the dice hoping the Steelers would miss his production - obviously that plan didn't make it past week 1.
What did he accomplish? I think he is in the process of singlehandedly destroying the value of running back contracts forever. Why on earth would a franchise pay an RB that kind of money anymore after his inevitable failure with the Jets? Hell, Todd Gurley lost his job during the playoffs, whether you agree with McVay's move or not.
RB's are simply a dime a dozen these days. Get a good RB committee going and shore up your line and passing weapons.
