I'm a card carrying Negadelphian, always have been. I wanted to share my thoughts about every time Philly teams have been in a title game/series. I was born in 1981 and didn't know the '83 Sixers or '87 Flyers finals even existed, so we'll start in '93:
-I was excited as hell about the '93 Phillies, finally seeing a playoff team. But I knew deep down we "rode the lightning" and the Blue Jays were a much better team. They were.
-Even though we were favored, I felt the '96 Red Wings were better than us and we would lose. We got absolutely humiliated in quite possibly the worst Stanley Cup Finals effort ever.
-We all loved the '01 Sixers, as we should. But nobody on the planet thought we could actually beat the Lakers, despite the cocktease they gave us in Game 1. The rest is history.
-The '04 Eagles and Pats were a toss-up. In fact, I got the score correct, 24-21, only I thought the Eagles would have 24. Later on it turned out the Pats were cheating. Fuck them.
-I felt the '08 Phillies were far superior to the Rays. We were.
-I felt the'09 Phillies were inferior to the Yankees. We were.
-I felt the '10 Flyers were awesome, but inferior to the Blackhawks. We were.
-The 2018 Eagles were a toss-up. If we could score we had a chance. Once Foles hit Jeffery for a big TD early on, I knew we had a shot. The rest is history.
-The '22 Phillies really had no business being in the WS. They just got hot at the right time. It was fun, but the much better team won.
-The '22-23 Eagles. This is by far the best Eagles team I've ever seen in my life. It's not even close. To be frank, I expect us to win by 10 points or more. I've placed bets backing this up. We dominate the trenches on both sides of the ball, and have an MVP QB.
The whole point of this post, is I've been more or less correct about every Philly team in a final game/series ever. You can all sleep soundly for the next week. We're going to win another Super Bowl. Good night.

This is definitely a weird one. I'm old enough to remember, "Foe, Foe, Foe..." those guys were REALLY good. This may be a better championship team. Only problem is, this is one game. I truly believe the Eagles have a much better roster top to bottom. However, Mahomes scares me like Brady used to. If we allow them to keep it close, we're playing with fire.
They need to keep the blueprint...score early and often. Get up by 2 scores and ride the run and defense to our next SB victory...

We're going to win another Super Bowl. Good night. =========================================================== Good post. Thanks for the input. I marked above who I thought was going to win those series. I am more realist than cheerleader. My record was an unimpressive 3-5 in those games you mention. I hope you are right, believe me. I'd love a blowout where we're toasting and cranking up the music in the 4th quarter but I don't see it. I think we'll win, but I'm about a 55%-45% on the conviction meter. It seems like since we won a SB a few years ago, that we're in bravado mode as a fan base and we may be a little to confident. Hearing you and the fans calling sports talk all week, I am more concerned. I have not heard one caller say KC will win. Not one. And about 75% say it will be a real comfortable win like you do. Not since "the game that shall never be mentioned by name" have I heard our fan base be this convinced of not only a win, but a comfortable win. Mikeynumbers did a little research to try to put this game in perspective. Here's some tidbits, some good, some not: Since 1990, there have been nine SB that had a spread of 3 points or less. The favorite is 5-4 in those games. KC -3 vs TB, Lost by 22 KC -1.5 vs SF Won by 11 NE - 2.5 vs LAR Won by 10 NE -3.0 vs ATL won by 6 SEA -1.0 vs NE, lost by 4 DEN -2.0 vs SEA lost by 35 NE -2.5 vs NYG lost by 4 GB -3.0 vs PIT, won by 6 BAL -3.0 vs NYG won by 27 (interesting that if you pick the winner, the point spread doesn't matter) 5-4 is one for "our side" but hardly a ringing endorsement Historically, 1.5 point favorites win the game 54.5% of the time -- another one for or side KC point differential was +127 with a tougher schedule versus our +133. Pretty close. How do the rating services compare us and KC? Not too good Sagarin has KC 0.75 points better than us PFF has them 3.2 points better Football Outsiders gives them a 52.9% chance of winning the game. A guy called into WIP yesterday afternoon with some interesting stats: (in our favor) - this is the 7th time that the QB who led the league in passing yards made it to the SB. They are 0-6 so far - we are #1 in passing defense per DVOA stat. SB teams that rank in the top 5 in that stat are 5-1 - KC opened as a 1.5 point favorite and the public quickly bet the Eagles. Switch in favorites have happened 18 times. The team the public switched to is 16-2 in the SB - KC was < 40% against the spread this year. Only three other teams <40% ATS have made the SB. They are 0-3. I see this as a real close game. We have the two better lines which is why I think we prevail. Reid is great at preparation, but struggles in game. Look for them to pull some crazy plays out early on. They have the best QB in the league for the last five years. That can make up for a lot of ills. Hurts not having to pass much and missing a few has me a little concerned as I don't think we can run them into submission. We need him to have his "A" game and be comfortable enough with his shoulder to stay in the pocket and deliver the ball when needed and run like he has when needed too. I'm going to look at individual matchups to see if that helps our cause.

We need him to have his "A" game and be comfortable enough with his shoulder to stay in the pocket and deliver the ball when needed and run like he has when needed too. I'm going to look at individual matchups to see if that helps our cause. The Chiefs, Bills, and Bengals are the best teams in the AFC. KC lost to both of them in the regular season, and had a time-expiring FG win against Cincy in the AFCCG. They managed to squeak by the Jags the week before. Us, Minny, SF, and Dallas are the best teams in the NFC. We comfortably spanked them 3 times this season, including the playoffs. Our first game against Dallas wasn't as close as the score says, and the 2nd one was without Hurts. Throwing in NY, we dominated the entire top tier of NFC teams this year. Is it just that we're that good? Or is it all a fluke, with some injury help? Many would say that whoever wins in the trenches is key to how a game is going to go. I'm one of them. We have what is clearly the best o-line in football, and one of the best pass rushes in memory. I do think that we're going to be clinking glasses midway through the 4th. I'm surprised there isn't a LITTLE token negativity in Philly right now, but fans being confident has nothing to do with games being won/lost. I guarantee you the players want it bad, and are preparing accordingly. And last but not least - if the "game that shall never be mentioned" is the one I think it is, I was at that game. I saw firsthand, for the first time, just how horribly flawed Andy's game management can be. I can't describe to people what it's like to be surrounded by tens of thousands of people walking to their cars, and not hearing a single sound. Now he's on the other sideline. Checkmate.

FWIW,I looked at PFF ratings of our matchups (CB vs WR, OL vs DL etc)
We have the advantage in 17 of the 22 matchups
KC has big advantage in Kelce vs whoever we put on him and DT Jones vs Dickerson PHI has big advantage in all four of the other our OL vs their DL matchups. Kelce, Isaac and Lane should own their side of the line as long as lane is OK to power block. It will be like Upshaw and Shell days of OAK. Also, the big Aussie should own Clark. D. Smith should own CB Watson.
KC has net + 86 in yards differential per game and we have + 87.
Both teams should be able to run the ball. They get 4.6 YPC when we give up 4.6 YPC. But we know Andy won't do that !!
We run it at 4.6 YPC and they give up 4.5 YPC. We should be able to throw it on them better than they throw it on us. Mahomes has a 104.1 rating where we give up a rating of 76.5. Hurts has a 96.5 and they give up a rating of 90.1. We need that Hurts Sunday. If we have the full package Hurts, then we roll.
I still see a nail biter. I don't think Andy can time manage a close one.
BTW, I think you have the "game that cannot be mentioned by name". I was at a packed bar that we would go to for all the games back in the day. There was ten seconds of cursing and then nothing but silence as everyone paid their tab, put their coats on and walked out the door to their cars. We almost cancelled our family SB party which we've been having since 1997 and still have till this day.

It really is impossible to describe what that was like to those who haven't experienced it. Imagine leaving a packed stadium without hearing a sound. No honking in the parking lot, no cursing or yelling, just tens of thousands of distraught people walking and driving. We're coming for you Andy.

I'm not overly-confident, mainly because of Mahomes. He is the wildcard here. We know he can do some crazy stuff.
Kelce scares me but not as much as Mahomes.
But, realistically, they should win. But it is the Eagles and they are playing against Mahomes.
If the Eagles do what they do best, they should win this game fairly-easily. They should be able to run the ball and just generally move it on offense. KC's defense has not impressed me at all. If they road grade with the offensive line, they should be good. If Mahomes doesn't have the ball, he can't hurt us.
Go Birds!!

I'm a card carrying Negadelphian, always have been. You think you are negative now, be happy you were not around for 1980. All four teams made it to their respective championships. Only the Phillies brought home a title. I'm still not over it.

So yeah, I get it. That's what makes this season so odd. Never felt like the Eagles were the team to beat. Even with some of those great teams in the 90s and early 2000s. Never felt comfortable. Said to my friend at the gym this morning that I'm more excited for this SB than the last one. I didn't expect we'd win that one. I was hopeful...and thought they had a chance but never thought they were winning it...until that final pass from Brady (eventually) found the ground in the endzone. But I feel like they should win this one. Don't know if they will but they should. So it's an odd feeling.

I guess it's similar to '07-'11, when every team but the Sixers had multiple runs and legit chances at titles, yet only the '08 Phillies won. At least you just got off 2 Stanley Cups (48 years and counting), and saw the Sixers in '83. Unless you're around 10, all Philly fans have spent much of their lives in misery.

Just another thought:
I wore my green #5 jersey at the 2004 Super Bowl.
I wore my black #36 Westbrook jersey at the 2018 Super Bowl.
I'll be wearing my black #36 Westbrook jersey again on Sunday. That's it. It's a done deal. You can all sleep well. We'll be celebrating in 2 days. Good night.

That's it. It's a done deal. You can all sleep well. We'll be celebrating in 2 days. Good night. Nice. We're doing all of the things we normally do: -wear correct clothing--including wife and kids -cooking the right food--same foods we did for the last SB but added a griddle and philly cheesesteaks -have had a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream on hand in case things get out of hand. Been doing this for decades now, not sure about the stats on how it works but, if I need it, they're struggling. Makes me feel better even if it doesn't work. -House is becoming even more green than it usually is. -having grilled shrimp (have had it the last two playoff games). -having 40-50 people over for the game (same as the last SB). -have the proper seats reserved for the important people. Everyone else can figure out their seats. There are other things we've got set up but this is the basics. Let's f'in go!!!

Very nice.
I'm not sure what I'm doing. I don't know any other Eagles fans here personally, so I may just watch it at home. I don't like yelling at the tv in a bar anyway at my age. Also, I don't want to have to show up at 3pm to get a seat, and then spend $200 on food and drinks for 6 hours. Meh.

Well, if they should make it again, maybe I'll take you up on that. I'm in Fort Myers, and found a decent spot to watch with a couple fellow fans. There's an Eagles bar in Naples, but apparently there was a line out the door at 11am. Maybe I'm a grumpy old man, but screw that.

We agreed going in that we had a clear advantage on both sides of the ball in the trenches. I bet a little money on the Eagles -9.5, and a lot more on us winning straight up. One bad turnover, one bad punt coverage, etc. can change it all. That's why it's called gambling.

I lucked out.
While my biggest bet was Eagles money line, I had an equally big bet on the over and a few props that paid off, including and PHI +3.5 Alternate spread.
I was a little in the black after the above.
Then after the game, I realized I hit a work block pool final for a nice win.
I got lucky. Gladly would have paid back the couple hundred for an Eagles win.
