We all knew this kind of game was possible but man...
I'm still not sure what I saw last night. Defense comes out playing on fire, gets the strip sack and we're off to the races...until the defense forgot how to stop a really bad team.
Again, playing soft. This is why I cannot go all in on Gannon. He loves to sit back to protect against the big play while they get killed by a thousand cuts. I mean, WTF!!??
We also knew there would come a game where they'd turn the ball over. But man....
Hoping this one is just one of those bad games and not the start of a trend.

Well, there's your blueprint.
Run the ball 60+%, dominate TOP, keep Hurts off the field, and hope it all works out. What's encouraging is that even though we had 4 turnovers and a horrendous 3rd down conversion rate on defense, we still were in a position to win without that disgraceful call at the end.
We weren't going to go undefeated. Learn from this game and do better.
And it isn't Gannon's fault that our guys couldn't tackle a running back.

Reading what happened over breakfast got the day off to a bad start.
One of those "if it could go wrong, it did go wrong" games, whether you're discussing turnovers, Gannon or officiating.

The Eagles Run D has been suspect for most of the year, even before Davis went down. Playing with the lead most of the time covered up this issue as offenses were forced to pass in order to catch up. Was saw that and committed to the run.
It wasn't just the Run D though. I don't know what Hurts was thinking when he threw that pic. There were 2 defenders on Brown. There was no need for Hurts to force that throw. The non-call of the Goedert fumble was brutal and the Watkins fumble was flukey to say the least.
I also took exception to the play calling. I think there were 2 called runs to the RBs in the 1st half. That is inexcusable. The Eagles' D was having problems getting off the field and what do the Eagles do on offense? Pass, pass, pass and then hit the sideline before the D gets a chance to take a breath. Run the ball, bleed a little clock and keep your own D off the field.
On a side note, I have seen enough of Covey. He is OK with securing punts and kicks but there is little chance that he will ever make a big return. The Eagles need an upgrade there.

He's had two fumbles but recovered both. He's basically the definition of a guy who just catches the ball and hands it off to your offense. I'm actually ok with that for now, just catch the ball and give it to Hurts.

The sooner that game is a faded memory the better.

While the run defense was bad, it's not really what cost the game. They gave up like 3 yards a carry. Problem was, because Gannon played that stupid sit back defense rather than forcing the issue with a QB who has struggled reading defenses and blitzes. What cost them the game was, 3rd and 1 all night long. They'd give up 1.5-2 yards but was still a 1st down repeatedly. Turning the ball over 4 times cost them more. Horrible offensive game plan. Why on Earth do they REFUSE to use Sanders more? I was asking if he was hurt since he wasn't in the game the whole 1st half! I also have no problem with Hurts throwing that first ball to Brown. He's been making those catches all game and it was perfectly-thrown. Was a good defensive play. They just won that one. But I want them to keep throwing it deep to Brown. He'll catch way more than he doesn't and good chance for pass interference. Run defense needs to get better for sure. They used the same blueprint to beat the Eagles as the Eagles used last year to win games. Shorten the game with the run and take your chances. The Eagles should have blown them out but keep fumbling the ball away and this is what happens.

I forget the exact number but the Was offense had the ball about 24 minutes out of the 1st 30 minutes of the game. You cannot win games when the TOP is that lopsided. The 2nd half was roughly even but Was still won TOP 40:24 to 19:36. That lopsided TOP is squarely on the Eagles' run D and I think it had a bigger impact on the outcome than you do. I agree with you regarding the lack of pressure. I will have to watch the game again to see if it was a lack of called blitzes or if it was Heinicke getting the ball out quickly. They definitely made an effort to call plays that employed 3 step drops with quick releases. It was very frustrating watching it unfold. I don't get why they did not use Sanders more. I mentioned the same thing in my original post. I still have a problem with Hurts throwing that ball to Brown and double coverage. Hurts wins games by not making mistakes and securing the ball. Players like Favre got away with being a gunslinger. I don't think Hurts can be consistently successful like that. Yes, he can do it occasionally but I don't think he can do it consistently.

I don't remember them getting rid of the ball all that quickly. We weren't getting pressure. Cox is a waste of space and getting more useless as the season goes on. I still have no problem with that throw. The defender made a great play on the ball. Sometimes they just beat you. I'd prefer being aggressive. In the long run, they'll make way more of those than they miss on. Like the throw to Smith where he got the PI call. Gotta throw it downfield sometimes to create something. It wasn't a poorly-thrown ball (actually perfectly-thrown). The safety didn't bite on the other receiver. Again, it happens. It wasn't a low-percentage throw. It's the horrible playcalling I'm more pissed about. I'm tired of Gannon constantly getting less-aggressive thinking it's conservative. It just allows the team to get into a groove and allows them to run play after play as our defense wears down. They did probably the worst job they have against the pass. That contributed to them (Was) having such short 3rd downs. I feel much better about them being able to fix the run defense than I would if they had the same problems with pass defense they've had for the past...what...10 years+... And special teams finally really cost the team. Can we get a better special teams coach already!!??

Insult to injury, Goedert is on the IR. He'll likely miss a month.
On a side note, Heinicke was out on the field for the last few snaps. I would've sent my guys to spear him in the knees, just to help him take another one. I guess that's why I'm not an NFL coach.

Gannon has the DBs to play aggressively, and he chooses to lay back. Another coach who thinks he's smarter than everyone else.
