Strong scouting reportAnalysis begins at about the 13:10 mark.Strong medical report I'm sorry, really hard to get remotely excited about a UDFA QB. This guy is saying he's a franchise QB? IF that were the case, why was he undrafted? Knee problem or not? Someone would take a chance on him in the later rounds if he were that good. Not saying he won't be good but I very much doubt it.

I'm with Rick in that I can't see him being a franchise QB when he was a UDFA in a weak QB class.
But from what I read previously I got the impression he can be a good #2 QB. The opportunity will be there as Minshew will move on when his contract expires after this season.

The attached conversation with film and medical report were the points. All of the scouting reports I've seen, including this one, see Strong as being a leader, strong arm, extremely accurate and able to read defenses quickly and accurately. He's not a mobile QB and needs a good OL in front of him. His effectiveness is contingent on his knee.

It doesn’t seem like they want competition.
I hope they don’t repeat the Carson experience where they worry about competition.
They already have a guy on the roster who has better stats and the same amount of experience. Difference is his playing time was behind one of the worst OLs in football versus Hurts being behind one of the best.
Strong is a legit low third high fourth round pick. He should stick somewhere as a decent backup if he plays up to his expectations.
A great UDFA signing. The best since TJ Edwards who was also a projected high 4th.

I realize it's easy, but you confused me here, the first three paragraphs. And speaking of competition, when do they get someone to compete with Siposs? Even if they have confidence he'll be better, they need to have someone to be insurance and push him.

I’m referring to Minshew and the anointing of Hurts as the starter. I would prefer a competition and based on the horrific playoff performance that would seem warranted. Maybe you don’t advertise it as such, but the reality should be there is a fair competition. Which is what the HC told us ad nauseum last year.
Compare the two QBs stats. It’s warranted. Especially when you consider the caliber of the OLs.
Now Hurts May win the competition, but at least it would earned.

They have more invested (directly and indirectly) in Hurts so they're going to see what they have and whether they need to move on or keep working with him.

You have to be kidding me..lol Minshew has been a backup for a reason....and to base it on a playoff games means you think that Kyler Murray should be in a competition with Colt McKoy because he was even worse than Hurts in his playoff appearance. I go with the eye test...and it is not even close. When you dig into the stats it is also not really close unless you include Hurts' first 4 games on a team that had mailed it in after their QB destroyed the team. Their OL was playing guys who were not even backups due to massive injuries and garbage at the WRs. At least Minshew had a Pro Bowl WR in Chark. Sometimes I think you have chosen retirement to start smoking crack..lol

No I’m not retired LOL. I’m a spry 58!
RF, you see in Hurts the hope of what could be, and that’s ok. You and others, probably rightfully so, project improvement in year three. Yet with 3 less games than Hurts (but 3 more starts), we assume Minshew has no room for growth.
Career stats:(reg season) Stat....................GM..............JH GP......................27................30 GS......................22................19 Complete %.......63.2%..........59.0% TD-INT..............41-12...........22-13 Int%...................1.4%............2.2% YPA...................7.0................7.3 Pass Yds/Gm...221...............140 Pass Rating.......93.9..............84.7
Minshew got all but 2 starts behind a poor OL, while Hurts got his behind an excellent Eagles OL.
Also Hurts had a horrendous playoff game (60.0 rating), that was the worst Eagle QB playoff game I remember since Jaws meltdown in 1980 SB. TB made the blue print about how to defend Hurts. He’s got a lot to overcome. The most alarming thing to me that game was his lack of vision. He left 2 TDs and over 150 yds to Quez on the field because of lack of vision. That’s hard to overcome. Not impossible, but hard.
Maybe you don’t announce it and you keep with the Hurts is our man mantra, but Hurts shortcomings and Minshew results, deem a QB competition worthy..Let the best QB win, and maybe Hurts does that. But he’ll have to beat a guy out with similar experience and better results and that’s good for the team IMO. It also lends credence to the HC preaching competition as a tenant of his coaching philosophy. We’ve already been down the coddle the QB road and it’s a dead end. Choose another route.

Oops.
Admins.
Please erase this thread!,
I wonder what happened here. Was he that bad, when the 3rd stringer was horrible, to only merit four passes in preseason games that the scrubs played in? He hardly got any reps in training camp.
Very odd.
I think the water boy got more reps!

How did I miss this gem? All of Hurts' starts were behind an excellent line? His first 4 were behind a line of furniture movers and that is not a compliment...I mean guys currently moving furniture. You clearly forget that season. The only thing worse than his injury riddled O line was the WR corp. But what really crack me up is your fall back on citing his playoff game. Maybe before you go any farther down that road you might want to take a look at Kyler Murray's stat line in his first playoff game in the same season. And what contract did he just get?
