Another 7M added cap space added this year and 8 next year.
If Howie restructures Peters and extends Algholor too they could have over 30M in space this year, he never ceases to amaze when it comes to the cap.

Don't like the move at all. Yeah cap space is nice, but unloading a great player for BS draft picks next year isn't.

And a loaded draft. Also reports are saying he maybe had some locker room issues and potential court issues. Have to wait it out.

Hard not to like him as a player, rather he stayed but in Howie I trust.

I'd like to keep Bennett for his play, but looking ahead this may be a move to create a roster spot as much as cap room.
Our starting DEs will be Graham and Barnett, with Long and two others as the back ups. Long is likely to retire after this season so it makes sense to have a couple of youngsters. One could be Sweat but with this being a deep draft on the DL the other should be a rookie which gives us good competition going forward as neither is guaranteed to be the next man up.
If we kept Bennett then we'd be relying only on Sweat as there would be no room for another pick unless we kept six DEs, which means at least one being inactive each week. Sweat was a fourth round pick last year, so it's a bit early to be writing him off because he didn't look a complete bust in limited action last year.
I'm slightly surprised at how little we're getting for Bennett in a league which is desperate for pass rushers. Even allowing for his age I'd rather have that fifth this year.

It could be debated on whether he's getting too old. I thought he played well but I get that. However, I don't understand the trade. I mean, Bennett plus a 7th round to get a 5th round in return? I get it, the 7th rounder probably is a BS pick but still.
Sad to lose him...especially to someone like the Patriots.

As a general rule, if Belichick is going after a player, that means he is going to be put to good use. I hope this was just a cap maneuver, as this is a steal for them.
