Numbers posted on Spotrac prior to the McLeod contract redo:
Cap Overage = (16.3 M) - over the cap projection
Foles..............+20.8 M - remove his cap = +20.6, take dead money hit (1.8) have him payback bonus +$2.0M
Cut Agholar......+ 9.4 M - NFW is he worth anything near this amount.
Resign Agholar ( 3.5 M) - my estimate of his year one cap value on a deal for him
Peters Redo......+ 4.6M - see below, a little complicated
Jernigan Redo...+ 3.0 M - his $13M cap hit is 10th highest, way to high - see below
Hicks Resign.....(3.5 M) - Based on Spotrac's market value of 7.0 M over 2 years
Ajayi Resign.....(3.65 M) - Based on Spotrac's market value of $7.3 M over 2 years
Wallace Resign..(3.0 M) - last year was 4.0 M, should be able to get him back for 1 M less
Sproles Resign..(1.5 M) - same deal as this year, minimum plus a few incentives ( can give him some NLTBE bonuses)
Cap Space.........6.5 M
=========================================================================
Jason Peters - still plays at a very good starter level. Due to have a cap hit of $ 9.25 M which is middle of the road 16th among LT's.
We need his cap space, he's the best we have, and if he's healthy, he probably is top 8 LT in the game, and no faith in Vaitai and the Aussie probably needs another year, and it is good mojo having him retire here.
He is due $8.0 M of cash this year, 7.75 salary plus 250K workout bonus.
I redo the deal, give him $ 6.5 M SB plus 1.5 M base to get his $ 8.0 cash. I do a two year deal, with '20 being $7.0 M of base. His new cap number this year would be $6.1 M
===========================================================================
Jernigan is due to have a 13.0 M cap hit; 11 M base plus $2 M SB amortization, with $11 M cash, his deal is due to expire after 2021.
I rework his deal and give him a $ 9 M SB, plus a $2.0 M base this year. I extend him by a year through 2022. I increase his base salary to 11 or 12 M each year after this year until the end. It could be trouble down the road, but if he plays at a decent level, it won't kill us. We could make needed cap space by redoing deals for other players in later year.
===========================================================================
The news is not all good however.
Spotrac estimates Graham's market value at 5 years 79.2 M.
They estimate Darby's at 6 years 80.7 M.
Even though these two are the best at their position on our team, and it is not my style to let them go, I can't keep them. We're too cap strapped.
Wentz cap hit is $ 8.5 M, with $ 4.1 M of cash. On a long term deal for him would be extremely expensive, but there could be some cap savings if we backload it, but I think the benefit of having Wentz play a year to define his value is worth more than 1-2 M of cap savings. And without doing more research, I don't know if that 1-2 M savings is attainable.
so we're on the plus side, and can be minor players in FA, and big players in the draft.
That's a good start.
