Considering they were essentially patchwork, the secondary did a nice job down the stretch. Here ...

Sometimes it's impossible to defend our fan base. There were people all over the place calling for Schwartz's head during the season, and some even after holding NO to 20 points!
Our secondary was down to literal practice squad players, and they looked competent against some of the best teams in the league. I think Schwartz did a hell of a job overall. Yeah, he doesn't utilize different blitz packages the way we would like to see, but he's playing to the group he has, not the group Jim Johnson had.
JJ's entire time here he had a Hall of Famer, 2 borderline Hall of Famers, and another 5 Pro-Bowlers in just his SECONDARY. Hell, Al Harris went on to be a 2nd team All-Pro starting in Green Bay, when here he was our nickelback. We all love him and he was a great DC, but he had a dream team to work with.

They did great & yes, credit must be given to Schwartz for managing to get the secondary back on track after the injury debacle. But...continually giving up those 2nd/3rd/4th & long plays by playing off & allowing oppositions to dictate the play, that cant continue next season. The front 4 doing all that great work early in downs only for the backs to play keepy offs when 10+ yards are needed, extremely frustrating. Play tight & aggressive in those situations & still give up the down? Ok, I can live with that but not this other nonsense.
Honestly, hands up anyone who did not think Brees would convert that 3rd & 18 or whatever it was. Sorry but if you put your hand up, yeah, I don't believe you:P .

Maddox is the most intriguing of the rooks, he played safety, slot cb, and outside cb...and did a decent job each time. But what really impressed me was after he got beat in the Cowboy game with a few double moves (J Mills Achilles heel), in the Saints game they tried to do it to him and he didn't bite, breaking up a couple of passes in the process. Fast learner, and multi-talented, I expect him to be around for a while.

Yeah, and when a simple slant goes for 60 yards you would be screaming about playing softer. Schwartz played to the talent he had. I think he knows a little bit better than we do.

Well he should know better, shouldn't he. Simple slants on 3rd & 18 eh? Try harder next time dude.

No, he doesn't need to 'know better.' He's a Super Bowl winning Defensive Coordinator, and you're a fan who probably plays Madden on rookie mode. He plays to his strengths. Our secondary simply isn't good. It's a testament to Schwartz's skill that they looked remotely competent at all during our run at the end of the year.

Ooh a Madden burn, how will I recover...
It's poor strategy that doesn't work much of the time & cost us games in season, bend don't brake has it's place but on not 3rd & long time & time again when it keeps failing.
