I agree, it's been a major problem with the defense just not getting pressure even when blitzing. I like that he's blitzing but they have to get there. They blitzed on that play against Atlanta on 4th down where JJ caught and ran for the winning TD. I didn't mind the blitz, problem was, they had the perfect play called at the time. Bad luck for sure, that's going to happen from time to time. Not sure why they can't even get there when blitzing. They have to figure out some way to get some pressure on the QB. There are some major problems with this defense right now. The injuries haven't helped but this is beyond just the injuries. They have to get all of this straightened out if they hope to make any noise this season.

Defensive analysts Like Joyner and others say their blitzes are too vanilla and early and readily identified by veteran QBs.
Thus the JJ napkin vs Samuel Morse comment.
Weeks after watching this pitiful attempt at pressuring the QB, I came up a really odd idea that seems idiotic at first blush.
You know how frustrating it is for us when the DL knock down a Wentz pass, and how we suffered a few TO on INT as a result?
Because our OL is so good, I think some times the opposing DL just give up and stand there and put their hands up.
We never do. To their credit, our DL goes all out every down hustling their asses off to get to the QB.
We should have our DL on occasion do a mush rush and drop back into coverage with hands up to look for blocked passes. Have the coverage assignments of the DB sync up to that so that we take the slant over the middle, maybe get a tipped ball, and help the DBs out by sparing a pass rush on occasion that wasn't getting there anyway. I'm talking once in a while, maybe 5-10% of the snaps. Maybe if we get Ramsey in here or any other real CBs from other teams, we may not need to do this. But for now, my thoughts is it can't hurt.
One other thing. Listening to sports talk, they're pining for Maddox or Jones return as if they will sure up the D.
NO. They both suck and are a major source of the problem. Maddox. Remember how in the CHI game, Robinson owned him?
We need to make a trade now. If not Ramsey, then someone. Give the opportunity to bury Jones and Maddox deep on the bench where they should be on a good team.
