The failed two point conversion play.
Wentz knee hit the ground before the ball crossed the plane.
True.
However, he was untouched and was over the line before he was touched.
In 2017 NFL, that's two points. Apparently, I was not the only one who didn't know that diving for the end zone by a QB is giving himself up. Once the knee hits the ground, even untouched, play over. I long for the old days. When is a QB not giving himself up?
But I digress. Back to the game. We get those two points and we're kicking a cupcake FG to win at the end instead of falling a foot short of a tough 4th & 10.
Big impact rule change.

It was news to me as well, but I can see why they changed the rule in a bid to stop defenders launching themselves at a diving QB.
One other thing - if we'd scored that two point conversion then we'd have been down 14-17, so when Wentz went in to make it 20-17 we'd have kicked the extra point. The subsequent Jones TD would have put Atlanta up 24-21, so on fourth down we'd have probably kicked the field goal and gone to OT.
Then again, we're talking about Pederson so he may have just gone for it on fourth down anyway. Particularly given the nonsensical rule that prevents both teams getting one possession in OT if the first team scores a TD.

The NFL wants late hits, etc. to stop. Why don't they outlaw diving at players on the ground like that rather than changing the rule for ONE player (e.g. the QB)? Never understood why they allow players to dive at a player on the ground like that (in any league).

What about the play where Wentz was ruled down while he was still on his feet in the act of escaping?

What about the play where Wentz was ruled down while he was still on his feet in the act of escaping? Yes, true, forgot about that one.
