1- Wentz gets extended.
2-And since I doubt Howie will need even half of it for this year to pay Carson, I suspect he is looking for a vet DE, probably in a trade for draft picks. Houston is said to be considering trading Clowney, but whoever it is, I doubt it will just be a guy.
That's my guess anyway.

One option to consider would be a large roster bonus and smaller signing bonus, so that more of the money hits this year's cap and less is carried forward.
Regardless, I want Wentz extended before Goff and Prescott so that we're setting the market and not following it.

There is a rumor I mentioned below:
A Buf Bills DE for Douglas, Sweat and a 4th round pick.
Can't imagine a backup DE being worth that. But a pick for player trade is the right way.
No way I sign Wentz now. Never.
I'd consider it after the first ten games if he plays really well and is healthy and the deal has some savings to it.
Otherwise, I wait until after the season and work on it then if both sides agree.
As a 5th year option guy, he is paid $22 M next year, with guarantees for injury. He won't be poor by QB standards if we have to go into next summer.

He won't be poor by QB standards if we have to go into next summer. They're playing with fire if they DON'T extend him now. They believe in him being the guy going forward. If they truly believe in him, then they should extend him. If they wait--and they are right about him--then he's only going to get MORE expensive, not less. It's a gamble for sure but, the ONLY thing he has had any issues with so far is he's gotten hurt two times--and it's arguable that both injuries are related. We could debate this but nobody really knows. But, if they sign him now, even though they'll be spending upwards of $30 million/year, they'll be getting him at a bargain assuming his health is ok. I, personally, don't buy him being injury-prone but it's purely speculation on my part. It's obvious the team believes this as well. So why would they NOT extend him? Again, we could all debate it here but, all that matters is whether the team believes in him or not and it's obvious they do believe in him.

Rick nails it.
Pay him now, or pay him even more.

Delighted to read this morning that Wentz got his extension for two reasons.
Firstly - he's got another six years here.
Secondly - those six years are at a price which will be less than that paid to Goff, Watson, Prescott, Mahomes etc. So we'll have more cap room than they will which will also benefit us.
