An important member of the '18-19 SB Champs, and a valuable member of the locker room and community. I don't think we're really hurt at the position, but I was hoping he'd be back for more.
P.S. - Please steer clear of broadcasting. One Long is enough.

We will likely need to trade to sure up that DE spot. Rumors of the guy from Buf for a 4th rounder, Douglas and Sweat. We'll see. Easier route was to give Long the PT to keep him.

From a purely cold football point of view, it was the perfect time to part ways. He was a good locker room veteran, and there's value in that, but with everyone healthy he would've essentially been fighting to stay 2nd string this year. He's 34, and it's time to move on. |

I'd have kept Long on the understanding that his playing time would, like that of Sweat and Miller, be determined by how he played. So similar snaps to last year if he was at the same level, or reduced if he was slowing down.
But he leaves with my thanks for his play on the field and character off it. Best wishes for his retirement.

He wasn't here long but quickly became one of my favorite players to ever wear the Green. I wish we could've kept him on somehow. Even if it was only for his veteran experience.
We'll always appreciate his help in getting that first ring
