The Eagles say they told him he will have a reduced role.
Based on his playing time last year, and our depth chart this year, here is my proposed playing time targets this year.
Here wasthe actual snap counts for the DL for game 1 and the Chicago playoff game to get a fell for what we did before injuries and in crunch time:
Player............Gm 1..(%).........CHI (%) Cox................65 (93).............32 (71) Graham..........46 (66).............35 (78) Bennett..........45 (64).............41 (91) Barnett..........40 (57)................I/R Long..............39 (56).............34 (76) Vaeao............27 (39)..............CUT Ngata.............17 (24).............14 (31) Hector.............7 (10)..............DNP Hester.............DNP..................12 (27) Jernigan...........INJ...................9 (20) Hall.................DNP..................3 (7)
The average number of total snaps a game is approx 70. So for 4 spots, that gives 280 snaps to divvy up.
Using the depth chart and my perception of talent of this group, and a desire to keep Long on this team, here's my target snap count:
Cox 53 (76%) Graham 45 (64%) Barnett 42 (60%) Jackson 42 (60%) Jernigan 30 (43%) Long 27 (39%) Curry 26 (37%) Hester 15 (21%)
He played as much as he did the last two years because of injuries to others. Offering him a target of almost 40% of the snaps is appropriate and fair IMO. If injuries happen again, then he can step it up and play more and we're in good hands.
Sweat, Miller and Ridgeway are my healthy scratches on game days.
Anyone?

I'd lean to keeping it simple.
The starters Graham and Barnett get 65% of snaps and the back ups Long and Curry get 35%. But I warn all four that they have to earn their snaps with both Miller and Sweat being able to replace Long and/or Curry if they do well enough.

Again, sorry I have to be 'that guy,' but it's the right football move. He'd be fighting for 2nd string. I will always respect him for what he did here.

If it was the right football move, his play last year would have indicated such.
It didn't.
