I read something the other day that Long had been told his role would be reduced in 2019 and as a result he was unlikely to be back. Then I read t he latest Spadaro column on the official site. The message about building the lines on either side of the ball is correct, but there is one noticeable omission when Roseman talks about DE. So my thanks to Long for his play on the field and character off it.

Graham and Barnett are the starters, but I'd have Curry and Long as the players rotating in with one other for depth. As this year's fourth round pick, that would be Miller.
Instead the team is saying that last year's fourth round pick Sweat can battle with Ostman and Hall for the last spot and that Long is now surplus to requirements despite still playing at a high level.
I get that it's better to move on a year early rather than a year late but it's not what I'd do.

I read elsewhere that he already pushed it back once and is doing it again because he doesn't feel right taking the money since he's not sure he's going to play. So, for those of you who were, "upset," with Long for not making his mind up, I guess he is still a good guy. He does not need to push his bonus back--and shouldn't, IMO--as the team will move on regardless of when he retires.
But I applaud him for being a man--as he has always been--about a situation like this. Gives me more respect for the guy.

My being upset was me thinking that he hadn't given the Eagles direction.
Turns out he and the Eagles were in contact.
No problem with him.
I do have a problem with the Eagles reducing his role to 15 snaps a game.
Injuries have caused him to play over 50% of the snaps the last two years. he played well . They should be able to easily get him 25-30 of the 75 snaps a game, which is about 33-42%. I don't think you're going to play Cox or Barnett or Graham over 75% of the plays. Especially with losing Bennett.
