"On April 6, 1994, Lurie's office sent out a fax announcing that a limited partnership that he led had reached an agreement to buy the Eagles from Miami auto magnate Norman Braman for $195 million." Umm, yeah - his mommy borrowed $190 million from the Bank of Boston, after his uncle allowed the purchase. Not quite a Rocky story there. Meh. A few years ago we were all calling for him to sell the team. Winning a trophy cures all. He isn't a 'Philly guy' at all, but to his credit he hires the right people and gets out of the way. Our regular season record under his watch can be solely attributed to Andy Reid's habit of winning 10+ games, before collapsing in the playoffs. Hiring Reid's protege has obviously worked out too. I don't hate the guy, and he clearly wants to win. But he could never be on the same level as Pat Croce. And let's not be naive and pretend he wouldn't rather be owner of the Patriots these last two decades.

I think the bottom line is under his 25 year ownership, our team is a top five organization in the league.
That, in and Of itself is impressive.
In this city, the only other organization I can think did that over a 25 year span was the Flyers in their first 25 years.
He's done a lot for those in need to with the Eagles charity work.
He's good people, which helps.

But stop calling him a Philly guy. He's not one, and he never will be.

I am willing to bet that Jeff Lurie has done more to make Philly a better place than you ever have. Who are you to label him not a Philly guy? He may not have started as one, but his commitment to this area, and all the good things he has done for our community has turned him into one of us.

He may not have started as one, but his commitment to this area, and all the good things he has done for our community has turned him into one of us. 'One of us?' Lolz. Thanks for pausing 'The View' to check in from Jersey to lecture us. You probably only come into the city if it's broad daylight. Yes, I have no doubt Lurie has all sorts of foundations and non-profits set up for tax advantages. Sorry, I wasn't born to a movie magnate. He has never struggled a day in his life. His entire existence has been a vacation from the reality that most of us face each day. His politics reflects the fact that he doesn't understand how life works, and he could never possibly relate to a blue-collar city like Philly. Winning a ring cures all, so now we can rewrite history, but there have been numerous controversies over the years that show an out-of-touch owner. I'll say it yet again: overall he's done a good job. He's made good hires, and he lets his people do their thing without meddling, a la Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder. But the fact remains, I'd bet my life that he would rather be in Boston. And during most of his tenure (under Reid anyway), you definitely got the notion that he was perfectly fine going 11-5 and losing in the divisional round. Sure he'd rather win it all, but I don't know how else you can interpret his infamous 'Gold Standard' comments that he'll never live down. Good owner? Yes. Philly guy? No.

Imagine if instead of all your meaningless replies, you actually pointed out something I said that wasn't correct? We would be making progress. I assume you weren't on the debate team in high school.....

I assume you weren't on the debate team in high school..... Imagine if you actually got the point. You ALWAYS post negative stuff. NEVER positive. That is a fact. That's all I'm saying. You're boring because you post negative stuff then look for a fight. Always....

Always.... Dude, a ridiculous article about Jeffrey being a 'Philly guy' was posted. I responded with obvious evidence that he isn't one. Of course he'd rather be in Boston. You decided to pick a fight with me, and when asked to respond to my comments, you haven't yet come up with anything other than childish responses. Stop rewriting history.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I'm the one picking the fight? You're the one who comes into threads like this and just gets all negative. You're the only person in this thread who's saying he'd rather be in Boston--something you have nothing to back up--and you're the one saying he's not a Philly guy because for some stupid reason you seem to think someone would have to actually be born in Philly to be a, "Philly guy". You can't say anything nice about the owner who has helped bring a championship to our favorite team. You've got to find something to knock him down. Does it make you feel better to do this to people? I'm just pointing out the obvious that you're a miserable person who seems to get pleasure from posting negative stuff about everything. Show me your posts with positive comments. I'll wait....

Show me your posts with positive comments. I'll wait.... Dude, this is what I'M talking about. I responded to phillymike's post. Why on earth do you think anyone was trying to talk to you?! I've said he's done a good job overall, and he seems like a good guy. He's also a silver-spooned Bostonite, who first tried to buy the Patriots, the team he loves and grew up rooting for. Boston sports fans are almost as good as Philly fans - obviously he would rather be there. Hell, the loan his mommy took out to buy the Eagles was from the Bank of Boston! What, no luck at Beneficial Bank? Can you imagine the amount of money on that loan that the BoB used to lend to middle class people and small business owners in the Boston area over the last 20+ years? I've never seen someone so obsessed with fluffing a billionaire who literally wouldn't even blink if you were gone tomorrow. All I asked was for you to point out something I said that was incorrect. Since you can't, you've gone into conniptions and are flailing away at your keyboard like a child. I said earlier part of the reason I don't like him is his politics. People who become rich through merit are usually conservative, as they understand how life and economics works, and how people accumulate wealth - of course, several of them choose to fake liberal politics (Buffett, Cuban). Rich people who inherit their money or gain it through illicit means are typically liberals, for obvious reasons - how can you understand how life works when you have always magically had money? And the billionaire you're fluffing purchased a mansion in Wynnewood, and would never live within Philly proper - part of the reason is he doesn't want to have to actually live in areas run by people who share his ideology. If you have anything relevant to say for the first time this thread, please do so.
