Now that the draft is over, we can take a look back and see how we did versus the "expert" rankings of the prospects.
I used six sources that rank the prospects # 1 is the best. All rank at least 300 of them except Walter Football which only lists the top 150. I didn't have time to do my usual detailed analysis, so hindsight will have to do.
Here are our picks, the spot drafted, the rankings of in order; NFL.COM, ESPN, PFF, CBS Draft scout, Draftek, Walter Football, followed by the predictive tier code that NFL.com and CBS had the prospect rated in, and lastly my grade for each pick, which is based on value and to a lesser degree position of need. Below the listing is tier description for each of the NFL.Com and CBS tiers.

Overall, I'd rate this draft as a solid A. We got two top 20 players at positions of need at 22 and 40. Hit on Smith, Trotter and Wilson and only had one major reach in Hunt. Overall a great job. We also did some trades to move some picks this year for higher picks next year.
One thing of note. Howie got a lot of praise for staying put at 22. I was hoping we'd either stay put or trade #22 for Surtain, so I was happy. I reviewed six mocks that I trust, and I noticed something pre draft. Because of anticipated reach for QB's and some other factors, all six had us getting either the 10th, 11th, or 12th best player if we stayed put. The 10th was Edge Latu. the 11th was CB Mitchell, and the 12th was Edge Verse. We stayed put and the 11th best prospect, the best CB was their waiting. I have a feeling that us staying there had more to do with other teams lack of desire to move down than a conscious decision by Howie but sometimes the best deals are the ones never presented.
Excellent job.
On a side note, besides being a great value at #155, you gotta love that Trot's kid is staying home. His Mom passed away recently and I love Trot so I'm pulling for the kid big time. We needed a LB and got a good one. The video of the call to him
was really nice to see.
