As I have said before, this is not a championship level defense.
The only way this team gets to the Super Bowl and wins it is if the offense can sustain long drives that end in six, thereby limiting the snaps of the other team's offense. This defense has made even mediocre QBs look like all-pros and it is not going to get fixed this year.
Next week's game could very well be the difference between the Eagles being division winners or a wild card team.

Exactly my reaction. We were all waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it did. Their luck finally ran out.
I've seen better tackling from Wal-Mart stop-loss prevention guys. The 2nd half reminded me of the 2nd half in the Super Bowl, minus us actually scoring points and making it a game.
We dug ourselves a hole, and were found out. In all likelihood this is going to be a NFCCG rematch, Desai better learn how to dial up something against them.

Next week's game could very well be the difference between the Eagles being division winners or a wild card team. We actually would still hold the edge. If they beat us next Sunday we likely would end up going to the 4th tiebreaker, best conference record. We would have the edge there by a game (assuming we both win out). They still have to play Buffalo/Miami/Detroit, while our only real game left is Seattle anyway.

We're both 4-2 in common opponents with 2 left to play each. Who would've thought Dallas losing to the Cardinals would be so important.

The Eagles are still in control, right? Win out and they're the #1 seed, I think.

I'm not panicing just yet. Horrible defensive effort. I think some of that is how much they played last game but certainly not having a decent linebacker didn't help. They killed us over the middle the whole game.
But Hurts really needs to stop holding the ball so long. Those 2 sacks he took were all on him and cost them dearly. But the defense absolutely shit the bed.
Was ugly for sure.

I have been critical of the Eagle's secondary all season and I think deservedly so.
However, I just read a post on Facebook that got me thinking. The post stated that Bradberry had 0 Targets and Slay had 3 targets with 3 receptions for 32 yards in the SF game. If that is the case, they did their job, exceptionally well. Morrow (LB), on the other hand, allowed 6 catches for 175 yards on 8 Targets.
I don't know where to find those stats but I would like to verify them and look at some of the other games. Does anyone know were to find the number of times a player is targeted and yards/TDs allowed, broken down by game?

Does anyone know were to find the number of times a player is targeted and yards/TDs allowed, broken down by game? The most egregious play was targeted to Bradberry, the one that made it 42-19. I'm not sure who made up those numbers, but clearly that's what they were, made up. We gave up 314 passing yards to 5 different targeted receivers and got killed, so I'm not sure what the flex is. If your LB is giving up 6 catches for 175 yards on 8 targets, that's not on him, that's on you - as in, the DC and secondary. Morrow had an awful game, but he shouldn't be expected to cover Samuel 1 on 1. Factor in god-awful tackling and recovery speed, and I don't really care who got targeted.

I found a site that has the stats I was looking for. Needless to say, the post from Facebook I referred to was incorrect. Here are Slay's and Bradberry's stats from the SF game.
Slay was targeted 5 times. There were 4 completions, 44 yards and 0 TDs. That is not a bad day for a corner. Bradberry was targeted 3 Times. There were 2 completions, 55 yards and 1 TD. Not the best of days but not a disaster either.
Morrow had the worse day by far. 7 targets, 5 completions for 129 yards and a TD.
Anyone interested in looking at these types of numbers can find them on pro-football-reference.com. Select the boxscore for the game and scroll down to "Advanced Defense".

It's been the slot corner and linebackers who have been shitting the bed regularly on pass (and lately run) defense. Not saying Bradberry and Slay are playing well but the bigger blame is the lack of LB play.
It's the position this team has decided they will not spend the money on. Sadly, there has to be somewhere as you just can't pay anyone.
With that said, I feel like they tend to ignore the position like they ignored WR for DECADES. So I blame THAT on Howie/the team for not prioritizing an important position.
Of course, we expected more out of Smith and Dean has been hurt and hasn't shown much. So I guess they tried...

I just don't get their defensive game plans. They started out in man and did well and then switched to zone and stayed with it and got destroyed. It makes no sense. Purdy was seeing ghosts early and they should have sold out early to shake him up but they did nothing to rattle him until it was too late. Desai really is not a strong DC, hell, he is flat out terrible.

Purdy was seeing ghosts early and they should have sold out early to shake him up but they did nothing to rattle him until it was too late. Desai really is not a strong DC, hell, he is flat out terrible. I'm with you. Been wondering this for years. They had dominated them in the 1st quarter (but didn't get in the endzone). Then, 2nd and like 15 or whatever, we have them relatively deep in their side of the field. Defense hadn't let them get anything going. So we sit back 10 yards and, when the ball is snapped, we backpedal. They get a long completion and they were off to the races. Totally changed the momentum of the game. I realize I'm just a dumb fan but, when everyone else in the world sees this--and calls it out--I just don't understand why they keep doing it. It's infuriatingly frustrating. I get it, short-handed at LB and a little thin at CB but why can't they put these guys in a better position to make plays? I realize some of it may be just blowing assignments as well but, when they start 10 yards off and backpedal, that's coaching putting them in that position. And let's not forget, on almost every short yardage situation, we have the CBs playing off 5+ yards. Always and easy completion for a first down. Just tired of seeing this. And stop trying to get cute with the run. Just run the ball between the tackles...what they're good at. Wear the defense down and then run all over them. This was the formula last season. Was the formula for the last half of the previous season. Just don't understand why we keep trying to press the issue and force the pass or run every crazy type of run except for just a straight run. They need to get back to being the bully.
